Skin Care: Home Remedies

Skin care has been a part of beauty regimens for centuries. Before modern technology was able to synthesize formulas, people had to use ingredients from nature. Some people still do, for various reasons. It can be environmentally friendly, or less expensive than commercial products.

Not all home remedies actually work as they claim, however. Some are simply old wives tales, or may work for some people with a certain skin type but not others. Of course, there are ones which may work even better than commercial preparations.

Besides the goal of attaining enhanced beauty, some skin care home remedies can aid in the healing of wounds. Burns, cuts, insect bites, and sometimes even bruises can be cured faster with a salve, than simply time alone. Many of these are recipes that can be used from natural ingredients and common things around the house.

It is wise to keep in mind that before trying any substance with a health claim, to check with a doctor first and make sure that there will be no harmful reactions, and that proper amounts are utilized. People with various health conditions and taking prescription medication, can have adverse interactions with even something that is herbal and considered "all natural".

The body is covered with skin from head to toe, and so skin care needs to have qualities for many areas. There are facial masks, which are made from pureed vegetables, fruits, and sometimes even grains such as oatmeal. Foot soaks with Epsom salts, mint or lavender. Lotions made with bees wax can keep elbows and knees from becoming too dry.

While aloe vera juice, honey, apple cider vinegar and white vinegar can all be considered natural, they can also be found at the local grocery store rather than exclusively at a health shop. These substances can have medical uses, rather than simply beautifying. Burns can be soothed with aloe vera, honey, or apple cider vinegar. Cuts and bruises can be healed with honey just as well as the popular Neosporin cream. White vinegar can soothe the sting from a jelly fish.

Many home remedies come from commonly store bought items, rather than natural substances. Toothpaste and eye drops can help clear pimples. Epsom salt is not only good for a bath, but a concentrated amount in warm water has been said to draw out infection and splinters.

The internet is a great resource to finding recipes for skin care home remedies. Most of them should, of course, give the disclaimer of being cautious in using them.
